Staged Reading - The Knight of the Burning Pestle

By Francis Beaumont

A staged Reading

Directed by Matthew Surrence

Tuesday - February 1st, 2011 8 p.m.

ONE NIGHT ONLY

The Knight of the Burning Pestle, by a contemporary of Shakespeare, is a neglected comic gem that gleams when a little polish is applied, says its director, Matthew Surrence:

"The situation, in which a pushy married couple in the audience forces an acting troupe to rewrite the play they're performing to give a starring role to their apprentice, is rife with hilarity, and this cast misses no opportunity to make the most of all the comic possibilities."

This staged reading reunites the cast of the well-received staged reading which Surrence directed in November at Subterranean Shakespeare. Remarks Surrence, "Moving to a proscenium stage will only increase the slapstick opportunities that this cast will be certain to exploit
