Audtions for our Summer 2018 Production #1 - Hamlet

Hamlet
by William Shakespeare
directed by Stanley Spenger

Auditions: Saturday/Sunday April 21/22
from 10:00am - 2:00pm
John Hinkel Park, 41 Somerset Place
Berkeley, CA, 94710

Actors Ensemble of Berkeley announces auditions for our production of Hamlet, which will be performed at 4 p.m.Saturdays and Sundays, July 7th - July 22nd, opening Wednesday, July 4th, at the wondrous John Hinkel Park Amphitheatre.  Rehearsals will begin the week of May 20th and will be split between locations in Berkeley and Temple Beth Hillel, Richmond.

The production builds on the version originally produced for radio by the BBC, and will run approximately 90 minutes in two acts with an intermission.  In an innovative twist, the part of Hamlet will be shared among all the 8-10 cast members, at times as an individual, and at times as a chorus, in a manner reminiscent of The Gospel at Colonus.

Our production will be directed by Stanley Spenger, who has had a long career in Bay Area theatre, including directing four previous productions of Hamlet. The founder of Berkeley's Subterranean Shakespeare theatre company, Stanley most recently played the lead in Butterfield 8's production of King Lear.

Auditions are Saturday/Sunday April 21/22 from 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the John Hinkel Park Amphitheatre. Please bring paper copies of your headshot and resume.  Please prepare a short Shakespearean monologue (you do not need to memorize it) and be prepared to read from sides. We will schedule folks in 15 minute blocks. If you wish to audition together we encourage you to sign up together.

These auditions will be concurrent with the auditions for our production of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged, also at John Hinkel Park, directed by Crystal Brown, opening August 18th and running through September 3rd.  Please specify which show(s) you are auditioning for when you write for an appointment.
