Actors Ensemble of Berkeley announces auditions for our production of "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged", which will be performed at 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, August 18th - September 2nd, plus Labor Day, September 3rd, at the wondrous John Hinkel Park Amphitheatre. Rehearsals will begin the week of July 8th and will be split between locations in Berkeley and Temple Beth Hillel, Richmond.
The production builds on the original work by the Reduced Shakespeare Company of the West End, London by expanding the cast to a 6-9+ member multi-ethnic, multi-gender, multi-generational ensemble, updating it to the present day, and adapting it appropriately for performance in a public park.
Our production will be directed by Crystal Brown, originally from Dallas, Texas. Crystal is an international actress with performance credits including "Nunsense" with Altarena, "The Marriage of Figaro" and "Twelfth Night" with Actors Ensemble, "Female Ashkenazi with Sewing Machine" with Inferno Theatre, and "Die Meistersingern von Nurnberg" with the Royal Opera House in London. Recently she directed Ibsen's "Rosmersholm" as part of Actors Ensemble's Winter Staged Reading Series. She opens next week as the lead actress in "The Human Ear" with Anton's Well Theatre Company in Berkeley.
Costumes by Paula Aiello and set design by Elena Childs, both veterans of previous Actors Ensemble productions. Stage management by Ayumi Namba.
Actors Ensemble is the longest-running theatre organization in Berkeley, founded in 1957. We aim to produce quality theatre emphasizing the ensemble, with a community flavor.
