PENTHESILEA - QUEEN OF THE AMAZONS, adapted and directed by globally-recognized director Giulio Cesare Perrone from the classic play by Heinrich Von Kleist. The Amazons interrupt the Trojan War only to find love interrupts conquest. All performances are at 4 p.m., running Saturdays and Sundays from August 23rd to September 7th, with a special show at 4 p.m. on Monday, September 1st (Labor Day).. The amphitheater will open at 3 p.m. for picnicing.
The amphitheatre seats over 200 people (check out the photo below from our recent production of Pride and Prejudice), but we will reserve the first few rows as a courtesy especially to the elderly and disabled - call 510-649-5999 to make a reservation. The amphitheatre is wheelchair accessible - access is best from Somerset Pl., take Southhampton from Arlington and continue straight onto Somerset Pl. (Google Maps will send you to the top of the park, quite a hike down). The amphitheatre consists of a series of stone steps. Bring low lawnchairs or pillows/cushions and/or blankets.

Giulio Perrone is well known in the theatrical community, working as a designer throughout the United States and his native Italy. His company, Inferno Theatre, is renowned for successfully presenting classic works in unique spaces, and for innovative use of dance, movement, and music. Recent productions include The Iliad, Dracula, and an adaptation of Ovid’s Metamorphoses.
Performances are Saturdays and Sundays August 23rd – September 7th, with a special performance on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1st.
