Hamlet Facebook PosterActors Ensemble of Berkeley announces  our production of Hamlet, which will be performed at 4 p.m.Saturdays and Sundays, July 7th - July 22nd, opening Wednesday, July 4th, at the wondrous John Hinkel Park Amphitheatre.

The production builds on the version originally produced for radio by the BBC, and will run approximately 90 minutes in two acts with an intermission.  In an innovative twist, the part of Hamlet will be shared among all the 8-10 cast members, at times as an individual, and at times as a chorus, in a manner reminiscent of The Gospel at Colonus.

Our production will be directed by Stanley Spenger, who has had a long career in Bay Area theatre, including directing four previous productions of Hamlet. The founder of Berkeley's Subterranean Shakespeare theatre company, Stanley most recently played the lead in Butterfield 8's production of King Lear.

Hamlet opens Wednesday, July 4th at 4 p.m., with additional performances Saturday and Sunday at 4 p.m. July 7th, 8th, 14th, 15th, 21st and 22nd. All performances are free of charge.

Featuring Zara Chastain as Guildenstern, Ethan Fry as Rosencrantz, Evan Winet as Claudius, Kate McGrath as Ophelia, Jeff Trescott as Polonius, Polina Litvak as Bernardo, Maria Frangos as Gertrude, Sam Logan as Laertes, Ian Wilcox as Horatio, Holly Bradford as Marcellus, and Everyone as Hamlet.

Costumes by Helen Slomowitz assisted by Kacy Dapp. Set design by Elena Childs. Technical direction by Robert Gudmundsson. Stage management by Emma Buechner. Sound design by Jasper Leach.
