Joseph O'Loughlin | 1946 - 2020
A member of the Actors Ensemble family passed away during these past months, and the family has now chosen to make the news public. Joe memorably performed with us in many productions, including 2011's "Heartbreak House", 2015's "Panhandle", and most recently our 2017 production of "The Caucasian Chalk Circle".
Joseph O'Loughlin passed away on April 14, 2020 after a two-year battle with metastatic prostate cancer. He fought a very brave fight against the disease. However, the disease was relentless and none of the medications helped to put him in remission. A private memorial was held earlier this year for close family members.
Joe was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 21,1946 to Joseph (Senior) and Genevieve O'Loughlin. His father died when Joe was 4 years old and his mother raised him and his sister as a widow. He attended Erasmus Hall High School and Pace University. Most of Joe's life he worked for the New York Stock Exchange before moving to California and pursuing his dreams of singing and acting. While in NJ he performed with the volunteer chorus of the New Jersey State Opera Chorus and when he and his wife Judith moved to California in 2003 he performed with the San Jose Opera Chorus as well.
His daughters, Jennifer Petraglia and Amy Morse, along with Judith would like to let you know how much Joe enjoyed performing with Actors Ensemble of Berkeley and many other theatre companies in the Bay Area. He loved acting and singing so very much and hoped to continue to perform for many more years to come.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation. This organization has been dear to our hearts as one of our daughters has this disease and has been treated since she was 17 years old with a variety of medications to keep the disease at bay. There is currently no cure for the disease. You can find out more about the Foundation at www.crohnscolitisfoundation.org or email them at This email address is being protected from spambots.
