Auditions For: "Two Jews Walk into a War"

Online-only Auditions for a Zoom Workshop Production of "Two Jews Walk into a War", by Seth Rozin, directed by Gabriel Ross. Submissions will be open through Sunday, March 14.

This is a high level online reading. It will be well rehearsed though performers will not be expected to be memorized. It is possible an online callback will be scheduled but it may not be needed. Performers will be paid a modest stipend. All are welcome to submit. Video auditions should contain 1-2 monolgues, preferably contemporary, no more than 4 minutes total. See the Audition Checklist below for step-by-step instructions.

"Two Jews Walk into a War" is inspired by the real life story of the last two Jews living in Afghanistan shortly after the fall of the Taliban. They have both taken up residency in Kabul's synagogue. And they both hate each other to death. Can this odd couple get it together enough to rebuild a Jewish community in Afghanistan? Or will they kill each other before that Taliban gets to them?

Characters:

Zeblyan: An old Jewish guy. Crude, aggressive, defiant. Like Oscar from the "Odd Couple" or Moishe from "Mrs Maisel."

Ishaq: An even older Jewish guy. Stuffy, stubborn, cerebral. Like Felix from "Odd Couple" or Abe from "Mrs Maisel."

Use the Google form to submit your headshot, resume, and a link to a video audition. Details in the Google Form. The readings will (probably) be Saturday, April 03 and Sunday, April 04, both at 7:00pm. (There is a possibility it may be delayed until the end of April or early May depending upon some licensing issues.) There will be approximately 6-8 rehearsals scheduled in the 2-3 weeks leading up to the performances. Rehearsals will be scheduled around each actor's availability, but will mostly be either weekday evenings or weekend afternoons like traditional non-AEA rehearsals.

You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  and we are happy to find a way to accommodate you either by setting up a zoom appointment or another creative way for you to audition. If you don't have a resume - just put down whatever experience you have that you feel

4) If you are new to auditioning we have suggested monologues available upon request.

We encourage both theatre veterans (Non AEA) and newcomers to audition - if this is your first time - write us and we will help you through the process. A.E. is an entirely volunteer company, though actors do receive a small compensation for expenses and a portion of performance donations in alignment with AB5. We regularly cast cross-gender and cross-type, and we actively seek folks of all ages, races, genders, and persuasions to audition.  Ages and Genders specified above are characteristics of the role, not necessarily of the actor playing the role.
