Actors Ensemble announces auditions for our 2020 Winter Main Stage Production, She Kills Monsters, by Qui Nguyen, directed by Kayla M. Kaufman. Auditions are October 13th and 14th, with callbacks October 20th, from 7-10 p.m. at Playground Playspace, 3286 Adeline Street, Berkeley, CA 94703. Performances will begin January 10th and run through February 1st at LaVal's Subterranean Theatre, 834 Euclid Ave, Berkeley, CA 94709, in the basement of LaVal's pizza. Non-AEA/No Pay. There will be a small stipend provided.
Rehearsals will begin late November, 2019, also at LaVal's. Please prepare a 1-minute comic monologue and be prepared to read from sides. We encourage folks new to or returning to theatre to audition - we will help you through the process! We regularly cast cross-gender and cross-type. She Kills Monsters:
A comedic romp into the world of fantasy role-playing games, She Kills Monsters tells the story of Agnes Evans as she leaves her childhood home in Ohio following the death of her teenage sister, Tilly. When Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, however, she stumbles into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was Tilly’s refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and 90s pop culture, acclaimed young playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all. Nominally 3 males and 6 females in the cast.

Kayla M. Kaufman is a recent recipient of an A.C.T. Fellowship, after having graduated from Loyola Marymount University Summa Cum Laude with a B.A. in both Theatre Arts and Film and Television Production. She has recently directed The Revolutionists as part of her A.C.T. fellowship, as well as Men I'm Not Married To for Santa Cruz Shakespeare and Crumble (Lay Me Down, Justin Timberlake) for the Women's Theatre Festival in Raleigh, N.C. She will be directing one of our Fall 2019 staged readings, Lysistrata, on October 28th. She has extensive theatrical experience with companies on both coasts. https://www.kaylamkaufman.com
